As any diehard chick lit fans should be, I am a big fan of Candace Bushnell – the pioneer of the genre and the author of Sex and the City. I also have to admit that I watched Lipstick Jungle when it was on air, and I was sad to see it go. The book is definitely better than the series, following the lives of power-hungry, money obsessed, beautiful women in the jungle of New York City.
The women in Lipstick Jungle are older and wealthier than the leading ladies of Sex and the City, but they are just as addicting to follow. Here we meet Wendy, Victory, and Nico, listed as some of the 50 Most Powerful Women in New York on The New York Post’s list. But the women still have to fight to stay ahead and protect their reputations.
Nico is the editor of Bonfire magazine and ultimately has to betray her boss to get promoted to the head of the entire magazine division. Wendy is president of Paradour Pictures, but she still has to struggle with a crumbling marriage at home. Victory is a single fashion designer that is tearing out her hair to please tough critics.
If you liked the show, it’s a must that you read the book!
