What’s Your Number by Karyn Bosnak Review

As much as I wanted to like this book, it just didn’t work for me. What’s Your Number was recently made into a movie starring Anna Faris. The premise for the plot of the book is good, but it just isn’t executed well.

The story begins when a young woman named Delilah realizes that the number of guys she’s slept with is quite high – 19. She vows to herself not to hit 20 until she finds Mr. Right but ends up sleeping with her ex-boss on the drunken night after she gets fired. Delilah panics and decides to make a list of all 20 men that she’s slept with so that she can go back and revisit each one to find out if any of them are right for her. Hopefully, she’ll be able to find a diamond in the rough and make it work with one of her 20 without adding to her “number”.

The plot itself is clever with areas of humor, but the style of writing in the book is much too obvious for my taste. The author is trying too hard. I have to emphasize that I really, really wanted to enjoy the wit and humor in the book, but the punch lines, and especially the ending of the book, were much too cliché for my liking. Does anyone disagree?
